DEMOLITION PLAN
This plan identifies structures and pavement to be removed from the fairgrounds to provide for renovation, new building construction, and new fairways. This demolition plan includes approximately 150,000 gross square feet of building space. This is based on a combination of the need for better-organized open space and the condition of existing buildings or structures.
The existing structures demolition of the fairgrounds is recommended to take place in a planned, synchronized manner. Many buildings are recommended for demolition to make way for new, more innovative and fairgoer-friendly establishments. Safety and maintenance concerns also addressed decisions on demolition of these properties. Many of the roadways will be removed to provide for parking. Other walkways and roadways will be resurfaced and used again but are still classified as being demolished or exhibit a drastic change in appearance. The horse stalls will be removed for the free-venue amphitheater; the sheep pavilion removed for a relocated rodeo arena; the rodeo arena removed for auxiliary parking; the one-mile track removed to provide for better fairgoer parking and a new main entryway. Some areas of the campground roadways may not be demolished unless a reconfiguration of the campgrounds occurs.
Most of the older concession areas and buildings are recommended for removal due to poor maintenance, health safety requirements and the unaesthetic appearance blocking the appreciation of the historic structures.
